In addition to her private practice, Dr. Ackard holds positions as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health at the University of Minnesota, and as Research Scientist at the Eating Disorders Institute at Methodist Hospital, St Louis Park. Dr. Ackard regularly publishes articles in peer- reviewed journals, collaboratively authors book chapters, and frequently presents at local, national, and international meetings and conferences including radio and television interviews. She is a Principal Investigator on several research grants in the areas of eating disorders treatment and outcome. Dr. Ackard most recently published an eBook entitled “Tips for Finding a Therapist That is a Good Fit for You” for the National Register of Health Services Providers in Psychology. Dr. Ackard earned her PhD from the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio and completed her predoctoral and postdoctoral internships, respectively, at Yale University School of Medicine and the Division of Epidemiology at the University of Minnesota. A senior faculty member of the International Association for Applied Control Theory (IAACT), he has conducted more than 1,000 workshops throughout the world, including the United States, Canada, Europe, Africa, Mexico and Iceland. As a consultant for diverse institutions and organizations, Dr. Grumley effectively models the results he seeks for others, and mentors other professionals how to do the same. As a speaker, his national and international audiences have included mental health and social services personnel and private practitioners, school teachers and administrators, youth service providers, drug-abuse prevention program staff, federal government, state, and county government employees, and those who work for large and small corporations. Ms. Jones has a strong background in organizational development, as founder of the Center for Organizational Development, a professional consulting group that works with clients across the country, integrating theory and practice. She is a talented and engaging public speaker who has a passion for the movement of the people, and is dedicated to the uplift of poverty and the oppressed. Ms. Jones compels her audience to do something, and eagerly pushes those around her to know that Truth is the essence of healing. As a past speaker at this conference, Ms. Jones has received marks of excellence for her energetic and heartfelt presentations. Richard Kaplan, M.D., is the Associate Medical Director at Midwest Children’s Resource Center, a regional medical child abuse evaluation program at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics in St. Paul and Minneapolis Minnesota. Dr. Kaplan is also the Medical Director of The Center for Safe and Healthy Children - the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital Child Abuse Program. He is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School. First, as a social worker and then as a pediatrician, Rich has been working with child abuse victims for over 30 years. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a charter member of the Ray Helfer Society and a former member of the Society’s executive committee. Dr. Kaplan is a 2003 recipient of the United States Department of Health and Human Services: Commissioner’s Award for Outstanding Service in the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect. He is also a member of the Executive Board of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Child Abuse and Neglect. Dr. Kaplan presented at our last conference and received rave reviews for his presentation style and wealth of information. Jenny Oliphant, MPH, is the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Healthy Youth Development-Prevention Research Center (PRC), Division of Adolescent Health and Medicine, at the University of Minnesota. There, she assists communities in developing prevention programming based on best practices in the field of youth development, community collaboration and adolescent health. She also coordinates the Center’s peer education program. She speaks locally and nationally about youth involvement, peer education, and pregnancy prevention. Her background includes experiences as a health educator with Planned Parenthood of Minnesota/South Dakota and as the Healthy People 2000 coordinator in rural Iowa of the Johnson County Department of Public Health’s community-based planning process. She holds a Masters of Public Health in Community Health Education from the University of Minnesota and is pursuing a doctorate degree at the University of St. Thomas in Educational Leadership. Jenny’s passions are coaching gymnastics, mentoring youth and her family including her two kids. Jeanne Schur, Ph.D., is a licensed child psychologist in private practice. Her areas of expertise include assessment and counseling with children, adolescents and adults; crisis intervention with children and families; and sports psychology consultation with children and athletes. Dr. Schur currently conducts forensic evaluations for Hennepin County District Court. She has been a frequent presenter at this conference and others and is always rated as one of the top presenters for her dynamic presentations, which are full of helpful ideas that attendees can use in their own work. Hans Skulstad, LMFT, received his master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and a Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of St. Thomas and is a licensed marriage and family therapist. He sees his work with individuals and families influenced by his seven years of experience providing home base services, as well as services in private practice, and his life experience as a father, brother, teammate, hockey coach, friend, partner, and uncle of two nieces and four nephews. He provides therapy to assist clients with a large range of therapeutic issues. His specialty areas include anxiety and depression, anger management, attention deficit, abuse, clergy and their families, couples issues, conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, life transitions, and family therapy. He works with ages eight and up. He currently serves as the Legislative Chair for the Minnesota Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. David X. Swenson, Ph.D., a forensic psychologist who has been in the field for about 40 years and is a licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He is a forensic consultant to schools, day and residential treatment programs, corrections and law enforcement programs, and specializes in assessment and treatment of youth. He is the author of over 100 publications and writes and presents on antisocial behavior, sleep impairments, school violence, and organization transition. He is also a Professor of Management in the School of Business and Technology at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. |
